Design Lead, Manager, Operations

Within my extensive 10-year tenure at Microsoft, a significant focus of my work revolved around various video offerings. This case study highlights my contributions to the enterprise side of video, serving as an integral part of the video backbone of Office and Microsoft 365. As a lead on the Stream Video team, I played a pivotal role in shaping the product strategy, making crucial day-to-day design decisions, and driving the success of our cross-disciplinary efforts.

OnePlayer

I designed the Stream video player, seamlessly integrated into Microsoft and third-party experiences like Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint. It offers configurable features, including intelligent players with transcriptions, notes, and chat capabilities, as well as lightweight options for quick playback.

Design System

I played a key role in defining the Stream Design System, which consists of controls and patterns that democratize video creation. Initially available as Figma files, I led the transformation of these configurations into a powerful code API, empowering anyone to enhance their products with Stream Video. To cater to partners seeking customization, I developed plug-and-play components and actively collaborated with teams, offering guidance to design unique video experiences.

Playlists

As the lead designer for Playlists, I crafted a seamless host experience that integrated Stream video and Microsoft Lists. Collaborating with a diverse team, I established an efficient design process and addressed unique challenges, such as ensuring smooth playback and integrating video controls into Lists. Balancing functionality and user interface, I advocated for impactful changes without overwhelming users. Through prototypes and effective communication, I conveyed the enhanced experience to leadership, resulting in transformative improvements on the platform.
